Photo 101 :: Day 3 :: Water

These were all taken in the same place.  As advised, I did both horizontal and vertical.  Which looks better?  I chose this lake in Central Park because it’s beautiful and provides serenity amidst the busy streets in Manhattan.

  1. I like the bridge horizontally and the one with skyscrapers vertically. Those orientations just seem to match the subjects better (to me, a totally untrained photographer!).

  2. In the first set, I like the horizontal better (and in my opnion you need to be mindful of getting the horizon level 😉 ) In the 2nd set, I like the vertical better so you can see the tips of the towers, like the trees… however, I like the stone foreground in the horizontal better than the grasses in the vertical. Still, all very nice 🙂

  3. HI! First, I love seeing Central Park in the fall…the colors are gorgeous. I am an amateur photographer but since you asked…I liked the horizontal for the first set of photos, I think because it mimics the horizontal line of the bridge. For the second set, I prefer the vertical because it emphasizes the height of the buildings. Great photos, btw. Cheers, Tiare

  4. I like both. I think vertical works better when u r trying to emphasize length of something (like the skyscrapers) n horizontal if u r trying to emphasize width (like the bridge)

  5. The bridge is tough. I like both, but if I had to choose, vertical seems to draw me in a little more. The building one is best, for me, in vertical. It just all works:)
